What are some of your favorite releases of 2009? What are you looking forward to for this year?
Some recent albums I've been listening to are:
Drudkh - Microcosmos: Really enjoying this! Definitely up there with Autumn Aurora and Blood In Our Wells. We get the same atmospheric Riffing, slow pounding drums, drawn out solos, and furious vocals, but there's also some clean sung vocals (which is a first I do believe). My favorite song would have to be Everything Unsaid Before.
Velvet Cacoon - P aa opal Poere Pr. 33: Very weird and different compared to Genevieve and Northsuite. was actually a bit upset when I first heard it, but it's starting to grow on me. They are also suppose to be releasing another 2 disc album this year called Atropine, which seems to be in vein of their other stuff based on the samples I've heard, so I'm looking forward to that
Wolves in the Throne Room - Malevolent Grain AND Black Cascade: Now, Malevolent Grain was an EP which was released a month before their full length Black Cascade, and this ep was very similar to Two Hunters. It consisted of an intro sort of track which had soothing female vocals and one other track which was in typical Wolves fashion. Nothing special, but a good listen none the less. Black Cascade on the other hand was a bit different than what they're normally used to. It still consisted of a short amount of lengthy tracks, but they seemed to be going for a more traditional 2nd wave black metal sound. The guitar seemed more agressive and less atmospheric (though still atmospheric) and the vocals sound more grim and less agonizing. I haven't listened to this as much as I thought I would.
A long time I've been waiting for the new Engorged album to come out, and the new album entitled 'The House of Cthulhu' has been scheduled for a June release, but I haven't heard much from that yet.
So tell us what you've been enjoying/waiting for.
